Stanley cups have surged in popularity in recent years, loved not just for their functionality but also as a stylish way to stay hydrated. However, owners—particularly those with the brand’s Switchback or Trigger Action cups—should be aware: The Washington-based company issued a recall on 2.6 million steel cups due to loose tops that have reportedly caused burn injuries.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that Stanley has received 21 complaints globally about travel mug lids detaching during use, leading to 38 burn injuries. The affected products were sold at major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target and more, as well as online, between June 2016 and December 2024.
“This recall involves all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the United States,” the CPSC reports on its website. “The recalled double-walled mugs were sold in a variety of colors including white, black and green, in 12 oz., 16 oz. and 20 oz. sizes with a polypropylene lid. The Stanley logo appears on the front and bottom of the mug. The recalled mugs have one of the following product identification numbers printed on the bottom of the mug.” We’ve listed them below, including the product name, size and product identification numbers of affected skus.
