We love a good platinum blond look, but there’s one aspect of this hair color we simply despise: how quickly the shade loses its hue. Whether the color completely dulls or the strands turn that dreaded brassy shade, it can seem almost impossible to keep that fresh-out-of-the-salon look for longer than a few weeks. Luckily for us, there seems to be a simple solution.

As found by BuzzFeed, Fanola shampoo ($11)—which can be purchased on Amazon—has stellar reviews claiming the product keeps hair from yellowing over time while also upping the brightness.

“Received this product in the mail today and used it for the first time. Absolutely in love!” wrote one reviewer. “It got rid of most of my yellow/gold tones in only one use. I left it on for about 3-4 minutes. The only problem is the smell is very intense. Other than that, it’s the best purple shampoo I’ve ever used!”

According this reviewer, these results for this before-and-after are after only using the shampoo one time. Sound too good to be true? Well, here’s how it works: Violet pigment in the shampoo tones down yellow hues on the hair by neutralizing the shades reflection. Simply apply the product to damp or dry hair for one to three minutes before rinsing. Pro tip: Use gloves when applying to your hair in order to prevent staining your hands.
