Sandy Linter Q&A: Beauty Secrets For Every Age featured image

Last week I joined celebrity makeup artist and Lancôme’s Beauty at Every Age Expert, Sandy Linter, just before a special event at Neiman Marcus in Boca Raton. There Linter revealed her secrets to looking beautiful and gave guests a sneak peek at her new book, The Makeup Wakeup: Revitalizing Your Look at Any Age, which she co-wrote with Lois Joy Johnson. Here she gives DailyBeauty the inside information and summer beauty tips.

Why did you write this book?
This is for women in their 40s, 50s and 60s, and they want to look good. They want to look as good as they possibly can with what they have to work with. They’re not trying any less than a 25-year-old. They are just older, and they have to work harder with their clothing, with maintenance and makeup. It’s about keeping the makeup current, fresh, cool and not overdone.

What will we find in the book?
These are all my girls in the book. People I have worked on over the years, including Cheryl Tiegs, Kim Alexis and Veronica Webb. It was a fun project to work on. Fabulous. My favorite thing in the whole book is the photography… each photo tells a story.

Why did you reveal the procedures you’ve had done with readers?
I’m 63, and the first time I had a facelift, I was 48. When I was 62, I had another facelift. I have no value unless I share. This is my passion. This is what I do. If a woman has a saggy neck, I’m not going to tell her that this makeup is going to fix it. I’m going to tell her that I had a facelift. That was good for me. It would be ridiculous to address these readers without mentioning surgery.

What message do you want to give your readers?
One of the biggest things I always tell people is: Don’t give up. Don’t stop wearing makeup. The reason women give up is because it’s not working so why bother, but there is a solution.

With summer approaching, do you have any recommendations for summer beauty?
I love tinted moisturizers with SPF in them. Lancôme has these brand new sheer lipsticks, called L’Absolu Nu, that look like a lipstick/lipgloss combination. If you have to rush and don’t have time for makeup, just put on bronzer and lipgloss. That will look young and fresh. The biggest mistake you can make: running out the door with just concealer and lipstick. Concealer without foundation on older skin doesn’t work. It can even highlight wrinkles, and then the lipstick makes your lips look harsh. It works for young girls but not for more mature skin. You have to switch it up.
