Nude lips never go out of style, and last night’s 2021 Emmy Awards celebration proves that. There was no shortage of neutral tones making a gorgeous statement across all skin tones, and these seven celebrities’ looks topped our list.

Angela Bassett

Celebrity makeup artist D’Andre Michael first lined the actress’s lips with Pat McGrath Labs PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil in Brownouveaux, following her lip line and then blending it in for an ombré effect. Then he used the same pencil in a different shade—Ground Control—to line the upper and lower outer corners, and blending again.

Next, he applied limited-edition MatteTrance Lipstick in Dream Lover and topped with LUST: Gloss in Future Femme, a pastel pink with iridescent pearl, to finish the look.

Kaley Cuoco

To complement Cuoco’s neon Vera Wang dress, celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg kept her makeup soft and subtle.

After taking a poll on Instagram, asking her followers which of Charlotte Tilbury’s The Super Nudes lip colors she should use, Greenberg decided on The Super Nudes Matte Revolution Lipstick in Catwalking, which she lined with Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk Original to give The Flight Attendant actress and Emmy nominee a naturally pigmented nude lip.

“With the dress being such a beautiful color, I wanted to create a jewel-tone eye while glamming it up with a dramatic wing,” says celebrity makeup artist Emily Cheng, who kept the Grown-ish actress’s lips nude to let the eyes take center stage.

“I always apply a generous amount of Rouge Dior #000 DiorNatural at the very beginning so it has time to absorb,” Cheng explains. “Then I blot off any excess before applying lipstick. I applied Rouge Dior #910 Ardente [a velvet finish] on the outer corners to create shape and then #339 Sillage [a satin finish] in the middle, blended in for a soft, contoured pout. I finished with Dior Addict Lip Maximizer #013 Beige in the center of the lips.”

Cecily Strong

Celebrity makeup artist Amy Clarke gave the Saturday Night Live star a soft-glam lip using Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Cocoa—a beigey plum-brown—and Jones Road Beauty’s high-shine Cool Gloss in Nude Beige on top, which perfectly accompanied her smoky eye and fluttery lashes.

Emma Corrin

“A natural, clean, English Rose look was discussed, onto which I wanted to add hues of refections of all the types of roses,” says celebrity makeup artist Florrie White, who used clear Byredo Chromophobia Lip Balm to moisten and add glisten to Corrin’s “already rosebud lips.” This look definitely made a bold statement, and we expected nothing less from The Crown‘s Lead Actress nominee.
