We use neurotoxins like Botox, *Xeomin and Dysport to help smooth wrinkles on our face to achieve a more youthful look. And it turns out that neurotoxins have been successfully used in other parts of the body also. Some use it to cure migraines and others use it to ease the pain in their feet caused by high heels. But a common myth that some may hear about is that neurotoxins can be used to perk up aging breasts or to fix a botched boob job. We asked our experts to see if there was any truth to this.

The Botox Breast Lift is an off-label usage of the neurotoxin. The idea is that an injection will relax the pectoral muscles so that the shoulders don’t slouch causing the breasts to be lifted. But many doctors are opposed to this treatment and are uncertain about the reliability and effectiveness of it.

“Fillers and Botox essentially have no place in changing the appearance of the breast,” says New York City plastic surgeon Sherrell Aston, MD. Neurotoxins work by paralyzing the muscles, but there are none in the breasts aside from the pectoral muscles that are behind them. But that muscle is so large that it would take an enormous and unsafe amount of neurotoxins to be effective.

San Antonio plastic surgeon Jorge Menendez, MD, agreed saying that he hadn’t seen any proven cases where neurotoxins were successfully in the breasts. He did say that people sometimes use neurotoxins to make the horizontal lines on the décolletage appear softer. But this is definitely not a permanent fix and only about 50 percent of patients saw some degree of improvement.
