New makeup hits virtual and IRL shelves daily, but lately, beauty brands have been stepping it up by embracing multipurpose products designed to streamline our routines and cut down clutter. From versatile face sticks that deliver color everywhere to SPF formulas doubling as tinted moisturizers, these clever multitaskers have earned a permanent spot in our makeup bags—freeing up space, saving time and simplifying our beauty routines in one fell swoop.
The numbers back it up. In The Benchmarking Company’s January 2025 beauty habits study, 67 percent of the 3,900 beauty-buying females surveyed in the U.S. said they “regularly buy beauty products that perform more than one function or solve multiple problems.” Likewise, in the past 12 months, 94 percent reported that they “have purchased a multi-tasking skin-care product,” while 89 percent said they “have purchased a multi-tasking makeup or color cosmetic product.”
The study also broke down the most in-demand multitaskers of the moment. In the skin-care category, serum with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, lip balm with SPF and tint and exfoliating cleansers top the list. Meanwhile, in the makeup category, plumping lip gloss, lip and cheek tint and blush and highlighter duos have gotten the most love.
