Tonight’s 29th annual Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, CA honored the best of the year in TV and film. For beauty editors, we can’t get enough of the red-carpet beauty. But tonight, one big trend was a more understated approach in the hair and makeup department: soft glam. These five leading ladies traded in the va-va voom for a pared down look.
America Ferrera
This is one of our favorite looks ever for Ferrera. The Barbie actress stunned in a sleek bob and soft glam by celebrity makeup artist Linda Hay. Ferrera received the SeeHer Award, which honors those who advocate for gender equality and portray authentic, boundary-pushing characters.
Mandy Moore
Stunning in a red sequin dress, Moore let a subtle cheek highlight, perfectly groomed brows and neutral lip do the talking at this year’s show. Her eyes were pared back with minimal mascara. In fact, it looked like she hardly had any on.
Margot Robbie
Though her custom Balmain dress was over-the-top gorgeous, the actress kept her hair and CHANEL makeup on the simpler side. Minimal mascara, a nude lip and matte skin, courtesy of CHANEL makeup artist Pati Dubroff, completed the look. Her neutral lip, which we love, is Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in a new shade, 195 Mise à Nu. “I wanted Margot’s makeup look to be filled with soft, warm tones to avoid competing with her red dress,” says Dubroff.
Jennifer Aniston
Nominated for best actress for her role in The Morning Show, Aniston paired her Dolce & Gabbana jumpsuit with shoulder-length, piecey hair, a fluttery lash and a barely there lip. Working with her mane man Chris McMillan, the A-lister wore BELLAMI’s best-selling Silk Seam Clip-In Hair Extensions.
Chelsea Handler
The show’s host for the second year in a row, Handler let her makeup take more of a backseat and kept all eyes on her hair. Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel gave the comedienne a voluminous side part using Virtue products, including the Volumizing Primer and Mousse.
