Sparse eyebrows are hard to fix, but thanks to a beauty service called microblading, it’s now easier than ever to say goodbye to thinning brows for good. Although, the service—it’s essentially a form of permanent makeup to camouflage missing brow hairs—can be expensive and necessitate a visit to your local brow expert, which many find to be annoying.
However, even though schlepping to a salon for microblading may seem like a pain, it’s certainly not something you should attempt to DIY at home. Unfortunately, there will always be one person who decides to go against to professional advice, and this time, it’s a beauty blogger who went as far as to record her experience with at-home microblading and post it to YouTube.

The video—it’s already gathered more than 3 million views since it was posted in April—demonstrates one woman attempting to microblade her own brows, and luckily, her results aren’t too bad. However, that certainly doesn’t mean you should try it too. According to brow expert Piret Aava (who’s also known as The Eyebrow Doctor), it’s a horrible idea to DIY microblading.
“From a safety standpoint, [at-home conditions] are not sanitary so there’s a chance you will end up with an infection,” says Aava. “From an aesthetic standpoint, it’s hard to see what you’re doing because of the angle. Your brow hairs block the view head on, so it’s very difficult to ensure everything comes out even and proportional.”
Considering this is a semipermanent treatment that’s applied to your face, why would you risk screwing it up or injuring yourself? Word to the wise: Leave this one to the professionals.
