Lizzo has broken the internet yet again. This time, it’s via a nude photo and hopes of changing the conversation around beauty standards.
Posing with coffee in hand and brand-new curtain bangs, the Truth Hurts singer writes, “Normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin but baby I wanted to show u how I do it au natural.”
In partnership with Dove’s “The Selfie Talk” campaign, launched today, the star hopes to “transform social media into a more positive and empowering place for the next generation,” reads a release. According to a new Dove Self-Esteem Project study, a whopping 80-percent of girls have edited their photos before posting them by age 13.
“I am excited to be partnering with @dove and the #DoveSelfEsteemProject which is helping to reverse the negative effects of social media and changing the conversation about beauty standards,” Lizzo continues in her caption.
“Given the uptick in conversation around image manipulation and pressure to post edited versions of ourselves online, there has never been a more important time to act and help make social media a more positive and empowering place for young people with The Selfie Talk,” reads a Dove statement.
At press time, the singer’s post has since garnered more than 20,000 comments, including supportive notes from fellow A-listers Marc Jacobs and Jonathan Van Ness.
Fans have also been dropping their appreciation in the comments. “Thank you for helping to normalize every body type,” one reads. “Thank you for being you and reminding everyone to be themselves,” reads another. “You are on my inspiration board always.”
