Couple goals! In a newly released Vogue video, Leighton Meester gave us a peek into her skin-care routine and revealed the product she shares with her husband, Adam Brody, because what’s more romantic than glowing skin?
She starts her routine by cleansing with Ursa Major Fantastic Face Wash ($32) on the NagraCoola Facial Cleansing Brush ($35), then follows up with Ocusoft Lid Scrub ($11) to help with dry eyes. Next comes NEOGEN Dermalogy Real Ferment Micro Essence ($38) before she reaches for the product that has her and her husband hooked: The KLOG Snail Mucin 90% Energy Essence ($17).
“This is something that my sister-in-law told me about. I saw this in her van when we were on a surf trip, and I was like, ‘What the hell is that?’ It’s snail mucin. Adam gets into the mucin; we share. We’re, like, a mucin family.”
If you’re new to snail mucin, it’s a skin-care ingredient that has gained popularity in the U.S. in recent years but has long been a staple in K-Beauty. “Snail mucin, also known as snail secretion filtrate or snail slime, is a popular skin-care ingredient derived from the secretions of certain species of snails, specifically the common garden snail,” cosmetic chemist David Petrillo previously told NewBeauty. “The snails themselves are not harmed in order to collect the mucin. If you’ve ever seen a snail move around, you’ve seen the trail of mucin it leaves behind. This can be collected, purified and filtrated to use in skin-care products.”
The ingredient is especially beloved for its hydrating properties. “Snail mucin contains hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid and allantoin, which help to hydrate and moisturize the skin,” Santiago Larraín Allendes, CEO of Caracol Natural Skincare, told NewBeauty previously. “This can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and leave the skin looking plump and supple.”
