Like many other fans of competition singing shows, I was first introduced to country singer-songwriter Lauren Alaina on Season 10 of American Idol when she was just 15 years old. Now, the 26-year-old is a full-blown star, spending her days on tour, and last night specifically, joining beauty editors on Zoom from Vancouver where she’s on set filming a movie. (I was hoping for some teasers, but all she could say is that it will debut in the fall). Partnering with European Wax Center for the rebrand launch of its entire EWC product line, Alaina gave us the scoop on the products she’s been using since Christmas that she can’t stop raving about. Here, the Southern belle gets personal about her brows, her sensitive skin and her personal-care routine.
“I think eyebrows define your whole face, and I’m super pumped about all of these products,” says Alaina. “I use the Brow Liner and Shaper first. I start with the spoolie and brush them up in the direction I want them to go because sometimes my brows do their own thing and I’ve got to tell them where to go. I’ve got some crazy eyebrows sometimes! Then I use the medium color pencil, and I start at the inner corners and go toward the arch. I don’t really have an arch so I have to create it.”
As the second step, Alaina uses the Brow Powder Duo in Medium (it also comes in Light and Dark). “I kind of mix the two shades together, but I get more of the darker shade, and then I fill them in a bit more to define them even more.” Lastly, Alaina says the Clear Brow Gel is her favorite of the three products. “I use the clear, but I actually played around with all of the colors [it comes in a Light, Medium and Dark tint as well]. If you’re not good at doing eyebrows, the colored ones would be good place to start. This stuff sets your eyebrows so well. It’s almost like mascara on your eyelashes but on your eyebrows, and when I get them the way I want them to look, these suckers would stay for three days if I let them, seriously. I’ve used all kinds of brow gels and some of them make your eyebrows look like they have superglue in them and they look insane.”
Next in Alaina’s favorites group is the GLOW Gradual Tan Body Lotion. “I have the most sensitive skin in the world and I’m allergic to most SPFs, so I have a really hard time protecting my skin—I have to be very, very careful. This stuff is awesome because I look like I got kissed by the sun without ever having to see it. I could live in a cave and no one would know. It’s a beautiful color and it has this really pretty shimmer in it. It also smells really nice, and some self-tanners stink! I’m so excited about this. I’m gonna be walking around looking like JLo with my tan—I wish!”
And last but not least is EWC’s SLOW Aloe Deodorant, which is aluminum-free and part of the “SLOW” collection because it actually contains natural narcissus bulb extract, which helps slow hair growth and thin hair over time. “First of all, this is the perfect size—it fits in my purse really well. I can take this puppy with me anywhere. And it smells really good. It’s a very neutral smell. I like smells that men could also wear—I’m not a fan of flowery or sweet smells. Outside of the fact that it smells good, the fact that you guys have made a product that can make my pits less hairy—I’m not the hairiest person in the world, but I’m on always stage. A thing I think about all the time is, ‘Are my armpits hairy?’ Nobody wants to see that. That’s not cute. It also thins the hair too, so that’s exciting.”
