Lady Gaga may have gone through some style tone-downs over the past few years, beginning with her natural makeup in “A Star is Born,” but the star wasn’t afraid to go back to her roots and serve an over-the-top look at this year’s MTV VMAs.

Alongside Ariana Grande in her world premiere of “Rain on Me” Gaga rocked a transparent globe shield and teal hair, but what really caught our eye was the bronzed makeup look she was wearing underneath.

According to Vogue.com, Gaga’s long-time makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, wanted her look to be “really beautiful and modern.” Together, Gaga and Tanno decided to go with winged liner, a glowing base and a classic nude lip. “It really went with her teal hair and everything she wore for the evening,” Tanno says.

To create her show-stopping yet subtle look, Tanno used a wide variety of products from Gaga’s makeup line, Haus Laboratories. She began by smudging the new Eye-Dentify Gel Pencil Eyeliner ($18) in Punk along the top lash line and into her crease and followed by blending the color Antique Rose all over the lid. Next, she used liquid liner and layers of falsies for a bright and wide-eyed effect.

For an “otherworldly” glow, Tanno applied Applause eyeshadow from Haus Laboratories’ Fame Palette ($34) beneath the brow bones and onto the cheeks.

Finally, Tanno traced the lips with RIP Lip Liner ($16) in Rule and polished Gaga’s pout with Le Riot Lip Gloss ($18) in Glass Slipper.

Although this look was created exclusively for Gaga, Tanno says, “I love seeing people recreate looks and this is a special moment I hope people will embrace.” We’re heading straight to our makeup stash to re-create this ourselves.
