Not surprisingly, Julianne Hough has a lot of energy, which she did her best to shut off during the last year-plus. “I don’t know if it was the pandemic, or just my cycle of life and the age that I am, but I’ve been competing and pushing since I was a kid,” the 33-year-old dancer, KINRGY founder and Thorne partner shares. “It’s always been go, go, go, but what I needed most was rest.”

The Reset

“I took this last year and a half to really reset my body, to heal from the inside out, to do the things that, internally, needed some focus. My adrenals were completely shot. My number-one word for the year was health. When you think of health, you think of moving your body and being active, but what I personally needed was rest. I literally needed to rest and recover from 30 years of training. Now that I feel like I’m at ground zero, I’m starting to move my body again because I do believe that motion is life. The whole thing was very, very different than anything I’ve ever experienced.”

Expert Take

“There are, obviously, so many experts that can help you, and so much information that’s available… but it’s also so important to check in with your body and see what it needs. Ask yourself: ‘What are the main issues I want to tackle?’ Maybe it’s focus, maybe it’s sleep, maybe it’s your brain fog. Find the most active issue you’re facing right now and start there. You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great, right?”

The Experience

“I’m a high-sensory person, even something simple like the scent of a candle—I’m all about that experience. We recently came out with these KINRGY Mist Sprays and those always ground me. I also take time to eat lunch—I cook it, I use my hands. We have access to so many things, like Postmates and takeout, but there’s such a ritual in the primal nature of creating food and doing it yourself. I always find that when I take the time to actually chew, taste and eat the food I make, my nervous system feels a lot calmer and relaxed.”

When I work with love, creativity and energy, versus anxiety and pushing and fear of time running out and all of those things, it helps. I always try to set up my environment in a way for success.

Resolutions, Revised

“We just had a new moon, which is all about detoxing and purging, getting rid of the old, and planting seeds and harvesting for the future— a reminder to be mindful and set intentions for what January looks like. I don’t make my resolution right before New Year’s; I start early by creating and designing the future of my life, so I’ve prepped myself by the time the new year comes. I really looking forward to doing the work and putting in the intention for everything that I do.”

Sync Up

“I’m very fortunate that I get to pair up with partnerships that have the key ingredients of alignment and authenticity; I won’t partner with anything unless we share the values of truly living well, which involves supporting physical and mental health, as well as energetic wellbeing. The brand alignment [for Thorne] is so true and so honest with what I represent in my personal brand, and my personal life. I’m all about energy, and so are they. The Amino Complex is unbelievable. It helps with building muscle mass and all that good stuff, and at the same time, it helps with recovering and feeling revitalized and energized. That product is my go-to, all the time. I can’t live without it.”
