Although Jennifer Coolidge has portrayed a slew of iconic roles, the 2022 Emmys mark her first nomination, and win, at this award show. Much of the internet is rooting for Coolidge’s victory, including Beth Behrs, who threatened to ‘quit Hollywood’ if The White Lotus star didn’t win. For the momentous occasion, Coolidge showed up looking stunning in a bold emerald green dress with gorgeous, subtle flowing waves. Hairstylist Marc Mena is behind her hair, and we’ve got the inside scoop on what he used.
The look aims to capture the effortless Mediterranean glamour of the ‘60s, think Bridget Bardot and Sophia Loren. Mena used Better Not Younger products to achieve this look. This brand is the first in hair care developed specifically for women over 40. To get Coolidge’s hair ready, she used Better Not Younger Wakeup Call Volumizing Shampoo ($29) and Conditioner ($29). During prep Mena sprayed the Lift Me Up Hair Thickener ($35) all over Coolidge’s blonde strands. Then he blew it out with a medium-sized ceramic brush.
Mena then employed “a classic roller set for volume and va-va-voom.” Once he removed the rollers, he applied No Remorse Heat Protection & Taming Spray ($33) to protect her hair and manage any frizz. He then used a 1.5” curling iron to give the ends a soft wave.
“There was a lot of teasing going on, too,” says Mena. “We didn’t want height at the root, but we did want volume,” he added. To achieve this volume, Mena sprayed Coolidge’s hair with Lift Me Up Hair Thickener. He then teased it with a fine tooth comb.
To seal the deal, Mena shaped and smoother Coolidge’s hair with a Mason Pearson brush and applied a bit of Wake Up Call High Hold Thickening Hairspray ($35). “It’s a fabulous hairspray. It gives me the flexibility to work with the hair but still has an impressive amount of hold,” says Mena. “I love that this line is packed with ingredients that nourish the hair and scalp—even the styling products!” The volumizing products from Better Not Younger all contain a signature combination of biotin, hops, burdock, bamboo and glycerin to support hair and scalp health.
