Ever since they released their generation-shaping album Badlands back in 2015, myself and (most of Gen Z) have been keeping a close eye on all things Halsey. From the singer’s deep-cut power ballads to her distinctive style and well-known voice, Halsey is one of the most experimental singers of the last decade, and one of my personal favorite things about the 29-year-old musician has always been their eccentric fashion and beauty choices.

Whether it be a bejeweled makeup look, a chic French bob, a pixie cut or razor-thin brows, Halsey can quite literally pull anything off. In their most recent look change, the “Bad at Love” singer is channeling some serious The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl realness with their striking magenta strands.

Halsey Goes Bright Magenta for Summer

I don’t know if it’s just because “Colors” defined a very formative period of my teen years, but I tend to associate Halsey with cool-toned colors like blue and purple. In the past, the singer has experimented with tons of colorful hair styles, from a watercolor buzz cut to a green bob and a blue lob. But, their most recent hair transformation might just be their most eye-catching style yet.

Spotted walking into a recording studio in New York (great news for Halsey fans everywhere), Halsey was seen sporting a bright magenta, almost waist-length hair ‘do. My mind—like many other former Disney kids, I’m sure—went right to how her new style is serving grown up Lava Girl realness, as the bright pink hue channels that child-like energy, but the soft waves and long, sleek styling totally elevates the look.
