Placing the highest priority on patient education, Dr. Kamakshi R. My best advice for patients

Be patient! Healing takes time. I’m going to do my part and then you have to do your part, which is taking care of yourself and having patience with yourself and the results

Revision breast surgery—it’s complex and I’m correcting a prior surgery for patients who’ve been disappointed, so there’s a lot of pressure to really get it right. With this procedure I’m able to utilize advanced techniques and special types of implants, fat transfer or tissue matrices to achieve an optimal result in one operation

The future of my field

Technology is the future. I practice in Silicon Valley and we’re surrounded by technology. We’ve seen some developments with what we use in surgery, particularly with meshes, anatomically shaped implants and devices that make surgery safer and less-invasive and help us provide more optimal results
What i love most about my profession

My relationship with my patients. I love being in the operating room and doing what I do with my hands to create results. But what I love most is the relationship with the patient, meeting them at a point when they’re scared, educating them, developing a plan that we both feel is bulletproof and then doing the surgery and seeing them happy with the results
My greatest achievement

My son, he’s given me a real window into what I’ve been hearing from my patients all along about motherhood, changes in your body after pregnancy and the immense love you feel for your child
Three things everyone should do before surgery

First, do your homework. Do lots of consultations when it comes to things like breast, abdominal or facial surgery. Second, find someone you have a good rapport with. And lastly, lead a healthy lifestyle and be at a healthy weight
