If you know one thing about New York in June it’s that the weather is unpredictable. High heat, rain, humidity, more humidity and even more humidity have been showing up on the daily.
One person whose hair hasn’t seemed to suffer: Dakota Johnson, who worked with celeb hairstylist Mark Townsend for her flawless Materialists premiere look this week in the Big Apple.
“Working with Dakota is always fun and inspiring, so when we were discussing how to style her hair for the Materialists premiere in NYC, we couldn’t decided if we wanted to go up or keep the hair down,” the hair guru told us. “The Gucci gown she chose to wear was backless, and we did want to show that off, so we prepped her hair for down, knowing we could put it up quickly after she was in her gown.”
Townsend’s secret: A full Biolage lineup—the iconic brand that just tapped Pamela Anderson to be its face.
“Dakota prepped her hair the day of the premiere by using Biolage Hydra Source Shampoo ($45) and Conditioner ($45) to keep her very long hair hydrated,” shares Townsend. “Once she sat down to start glam, I sprayed Biolage Hydra Source Daily Leave In Tonic ($38) into damp hair. This spray hydrates the hair without weighing it down and keeps the hair super shiny and frizz-free throughout the wet and humid night in NYC.”
Next, Townsend blow-dried Johnson’s hair with a round brush to give the hair lots of movement. “After the hair was dry, I took very large sections of hair and sprayed Biolage Thermal Setting Spray ($28) on it, before wrapping the hair around a large T3 curling iron. I’m obsessed with this spray because it protects the hair from heat damage while helping set a very loose wave.”
To finish, Townsend lightly sprayed Biolage Complete Control Hairspray ($28) on the hair and twisted it up into a low bun to set some wave into it. “I sprayed Biolage Freeze Fix ($28) on a natural bristle toothbrush to tame flyaways and keep her bangs in place.”
