Achieving dewy skin and the perfect shade of bronze, sun-kissed color are always top of mind during the summer. What’s not, according to celebrity colorist at Adel Atelier, Miranda Shaffer? Our hair color.

“We see a lot of clients coming back to the salon with sun-bleached, oxidized color in the fall,” she explains. The usual hair-color request: something different. Below, the top hair color trends to expect for fall, straight from the experts delivering them.

Blond Update
Stephanie Brown, master colorist at IGK Soho, explains that bright blonds tends to go from paler, whiter highlights to more golden blondes or creamy blondes come fall. “Ask your colorist for buttery tones—you will still feel bright, but you’ll have some warmth in your hair to help when you’re not as tan,” she says.

Rock Your Roots
While our first instinct is to reach for the root cover up or call our colorist the instant we see new growth peeking through, celebrity colorist at Adel Atelier, Kazu Suzuki, says we should embrace our dark roots come fall. “Blended dark roots will give you a trendy youthful look and contrast well with any hair color,” she says. “However, it is harder to maintain if you have heavy gray roots, which can look like stripes without constant root touch ups.”

Red Hot Hair

Brown predicts a lot of warm, coppery hues for fall—”like a Zendaya ‘Red Goldstone Coppery Red.’” The stone-inspired red is bright and deep, “reminiscent of fall’s changing leaves.”

Cinnamon-Inspired Strands
Another color trend Brown says to look out for? Cinnamon Brunette—”think Beyonce at the Lion King premiere,” she says. “Brunettes will also go for warm, cinnamon ombré pieces that are very soft and warm. Just a few pieces of this warm color brightens up the face and adds dimension to make the hair look shinier and fuller.”

Rosy Blond
After something fun? Now’s your chance: Celebrity hair colorist Nikki Lee says we’re about to see “rosy blond” hair—”almost like a strawberry blond, but with richer reds”—everywhere come fall.

Ash Blond
Suzuki says, “instead of going warmer with a darker blonde, icy-cool blonde continues to be trendy as we move into the colder months.” However, she says the ashy hue isn’t for everyone. “It’s very hard to maintain, and it can also be aging to some complexions because it enhances the gray undertones in the skin.” If this is the case for you, Suzuki says to ask your colorist for some cool, golden blonde highlights to offset it.

Balayage, Balayage, Balayage
If you’re seeking change, but not one that means visiting the salon for touchups every other month, balayage—hair color that’s painted freeform away from the roots, concentrated towards the mid-shaft and end—is your new best friend.  Virtually removing the fear of the “grow out,” Suzuki contends the trend is very easy to maintain and is “very flattering for most of women of any age.”

Dark Chocolate Brown
Brown says that her brunette clients tend to want little to no highlights come fall, and opt for a rich, dark chocolate brown. “Just really shiny and slightly warm.”

Power Pink
We don’t usually see pastels trend in the fall, but Brown is confident that lilac pink—aka RaPINKnoe—will be huge this year. “People resonate with it because Megan Rapinoe is such a strong, powerful woman who stands up for other women and demands equal pay. While lilac and pinks have been popular, Rapinoe made this color powerful.”
