Misty Copeland Reveals the One Beauty Treatment Ballerinas Can’t Ever Get

By ·

Ballet dancers are the epitome of style and grace, from their romantic tutus to their soft, satin ballet shoes, they embody the traditional attributes of femininity. But, as Misty Copeland explained recently to PeopleStyle, all is not what it seems underneath those soft, satin slippers. The professional dancer revealed that one big no-no for ballerinas is the common beauty practice of getting pedicures.

As the principle dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, Copeland has spent years strengthening her feet for the hours upon hours that she spends on her toes. According to the dancer, although essie has a cult-classic nail polish named Ballet Slippers, you probably won’t see many ballerinas sitting in the pedicure chair to don the aptly named color.

“Most [ballerinas] don’t get pedicures,” says Copeland. “It’s really important that our feet don’t get soft. All of that stuff that people say like, ‘Oh ballerinas feet are so ugly.” I’m proud of that. It’s an armor that I’ve worked a lifetime to build and it protects my feet, which is why I can dance on point for 10-plus hours a day and not have my feet bleeding. No pedicures for me.”
