Ahead, 10 of the biggest beauty crazes that made it big in 2016.

Lip Fillers

No one can deny that this procedure became insanely popular over the past year (some even say it's the exploding trend that's now the gateway to plastic surgery).  Whether we can blame Kylie Jenner for the sudden spike or not, 2016 was officially the year of fuller lips.

Red Eye Shadow

Crimson-colored eye shadow recently swept through Hollywood, with celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Shay Mitchell and Joan Smalls all sporting the trend at red carpet events. While it's certainly a risky look to try (sickly, red-rimmed eyes are always a possible outcome), it certainly looks flawless when done right.

Dark Circle Injections

Hollowed out under-eyes and dark circles can instantly age you, which is why under-eye fillers became a high-demand procedure this year. “Patients are focusing on the loss of volume in the face and under-eye dark circles are a big concern for them,” explains Beverly Hills-based facial plastic surgeon, Kimberly Lee, M.D. “Done well, fillers in this area can significantly improve the tired look and lift sagging tissue while achieving a natural result.”

Eye Gloss

Gloss is officially back. Need proof? The Spring/Summer 2017 fashion week runway shows presented tons of models wearing various forms of eye gloss. Worn alone, the glossy lids add a bit of shine to your ultra-natural look. Or, wear it on top of your eye makeup and your style will take on a smudged, grungy feel.

Brushed-Up Brows

The days of pencil-thin, drawn on eyebrows are long gone, ushering in a new wave of natural, thick brow looks instead. With thicker, brushed-up brows being a staple on runways and red carpets alike, it's painfully obvious that this was one of the biggest trends to hit this past calendar year.

The Lob

The lob, which was pioneered by Chrissy Teigen and Jenna Dewan Tatum, became a Hollywood favorite during 2016. Considering how low-maintenance and universally flattering the cut is, this trend will surely carry over into the new year.

CoolSculpting

Body contouring gained major traction this year, with CoolSculpting taking the lead over many other slimming procedures. Freezing the fat cells to "death" and allowing them to pass through the lymphatic system seemed to be much more appealing to people looking to slim down stubborn sections of fat—sans incisions.

Glitter Lips

While it may not seem practical for everyday wear, glitter lips were majorly trending all thanks to Pat McGrath and the release of her Lust 004 Kits by Pat McGrath Labs ($60). Still haven’t gotten a chance to wear 2016’s biggest makeup trend? New Year’s Eve is the perfect opportunity to give that sparkling lip look a try.

Wearing No Makeup

Ever since Alicia Keys wore no makeup to the MTV Video Music Awards, multiple celebrities began joining her #NoMakeup movement, posting their own makeup-free selfies to social media.

Rainbow Highlighter

We left contouring behind in 2014 when strobing—a.k.a. highlighting—made it's grand appearance. But in 2016, strobing took on a whole new look with the introduction of rainbow highlighters. The pastel shades gave wearers an otherworldly glow that took social media by storm.
