Along with mixing up your brow makeup and embracing the art of negative space, it’s looking like Brigitte Bardot–inspired hair—more specifically her wispy, flared bangs—is a trend that isn’t going anywhere this year. A number of our favorite celebrities are donning the look, with more popping up each day, and with good reason: The ’60s fringe pairs just as perfectly with a ball gown as it does with your go-to athleisure look, and according to Pinterest’s latest data, the search for “curtain bangs” (another term for this must-have fringe) is up a whopping 600 percent.

The inspiration behind the craze is obviously the iconic ‘do flaunted by the one-and-only Brigitte Bardot, which incorporates a lot of teasing, layers, and more importantly in this case, long, wispy bangs that are parted in the center to keep the focus on the eyes. To get the look, ask your hairdresser for long bangs if you don’t already have them—the length is up to you, but should be longer than your brows—and let him or her know you’ll be parting them in the center in order for the proper cut to be performed (longer on the sides). If you’re reluctant to snip your bangs (we understand), test drive the look by parting your hair in the center if you usually part it on one of the sides to see if you’ll like the newfound focus at the center of your face, instead.
Whether you’re rocking the bangs or just a center part, styling your locks the right way is just as important as the cut. When it comes time to care for your look at home, be sure to apply a volumizing mousse or spray to your roots before roughly blow-drying to achieve Bardot’s coveted volume (this look won’t look the same on limp strands). Once dry, tease at the crown until you get the volume you’re looking for and lightly brush out any harsh areas.
