First it was “cold girl blush” and then “glazed-doughnut skin” and now, the latest in chic, high-fashion makeup trends is here: “barbed wire brows.” Taking the feathery, exaggerated look to a whole new level, these spiked-out brows have been spotted on A-listers and models like Delilah Belle as well as all over London fashion week, meaning that we can expect to see a lot more of this statement brow style soon.
What exactly are “barbed wire brows?” The look centers around shaping individual sections of the brow hairs into spikes, separated enough to appear like real-life eyebrow slits across the arch. The variations we’ve seen so far range from subtle to bold, but all styles lift the face and give a snatched appearance as a result of their linear and sleek form.
The key to nailing this high-fashion look, according to celebrity makeup artists, is a good brow gel. You want a product that is moldable but also dries clear and holds well so you don’t have to worry about the brows losing their distinct shape. Delilah Belle’s makeup artist, Dominique Della Maggiore, used the Alias Brow Lamination Gel ($28) when spiking the model and up-and-coming singer’s brows to perfection for the cover of her debut single. NewBeauty’s 2023 Award Winner for Best Clear Brow Wax–Benefit’s Fluff Up Brow Wax ($26)–is another fan-favorite.
As the seasons change and the warmer weather kicks in, we’re all in search of new ways to switch up and elevate our beauty routines, and barbed wire brows might just be the bold look we need to spring into spring.
