Blush has been a rising star in the beauty bag for some time, but it might be at its zenith right now with the baby doll blush trend. Don’t know what we’re talking about? Take a look at Sabrina Carpenter or the many instances of Patrick Ta nailing it. Dolls have long been an object of beauty, so it’s no surprise this trend is taking off.

What is baby doll blush?

“The baby doll blush trend is using a soft pastel shade of blush high on the cheek for a doll-like effect,” explains celebrity makeup artist and MCoBeauty ambassador Amber Dreadon.

“To me, glam has always been inspired by things we find beautiful. It only makes sense that we’re inspired by the beauty we see in dolls as kids and then again as adults,” says celebrity makeup artist Judi Gabbay. Plus, she notes the influence Sabrina Carpenter’s rosy cheeks have had on beauty trends.

Dreadon also speculates that “the trend gained steam when makeup artists and influencers on TikTok started to pay more attention to K-beauty trends where soft pastel shades are always the cheek of choice.” All these things culminate to make the makeup mega-trend we’re seeing everywhere.

How to get the baby doll blush look

“Baby doll blush is easier to accomplish than you think. Although it may seem intimidating, all you need is a couple of good products to create a long-lasting flush,” says Gabbay. She recommends seeking out blushes in the baby pink, hot pink or magenta family, depending on your skin tone, while Dreadon suggests opting for a pastel shade.

“I love the exaggerated feel of blush concentrated higher on the cheekbones for a doll-like effect,” says Gabbay. “Start from the center of the eye, swooping upwards toward the cheekbones,” says Gabbay. Gently brush the blush on the top of the apples of the cheek and blend away the edges so that the top of the blush is almost touching the under-eye area, says Dreadon.

Dreadon recommends lightly building the color until it reaches the pigment level you want. “To create a skin-like finish use a warm, damp beauty sponge and tap a cream blush in the same family of tonality over top,” suggests Gabbay. She notes that layering creams and powders can help make this look last all day. “If you’re looking to get a super doll-like effect, use a pink face powder under the eye and blend into the blush.”
