Host Ashley Graham rolled out the red carpet reveal for tonight’s Met Gala, managing to give new meaning to the word “glowing” before she picked up a microphone at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“WOWWW – what an enchanting Met! 🌸✨ A HUGE thank you to @ludovicdesaintsernin and his team for their extraordinary dedication and craftsmanship,” the supermodel shared on her take of the “Garden of Time” dress code. “This dress is a true work of art, each piece of metal and Swarovski crystal was meticulously hand placed; 500 hours of hand work went into this extraordinary gown — they understood the assignment. @tiktok, thank you for being such fun partners in this whirlwind journey, thank you for being my date to the MET!! And to Anna and the @voguemagazine team, this will be a year to remember – let’s go host the red carpet!!! I can’t wait to see everyone’s looks! 🌺💫 #MetGala #LdSS“
The crystal-chainmail dress also played inspiration for the Revlon spokesperson’s glowing skin and edgy makeup, according to Graham’s makeup artist, Ivan Núñez.
“The inspiration behind Ashley Graham’s makeup look was a collaborative effort between both me and Ashley,” Núñez documented on Instagram. “We wanted ethereal glowing skin with glossy lips and lids to mimic her striking chainmail dress. We enhanced her natural features with luminescent tones while also adding hints of darkness and edge.”

For Graham’s hair, hair stylist Justine Marjan created a “dark fairytale”–inspired look using TRESemmé, GHD, Covet & Mane, and Nutrafol. “We were inspired by the ‘garden of time’ story from the 1960’s and wanted to create a hair look that felt like a dark fairytale,” Marjan says. “Ultimately, we decided to give Ashley a pixie bang and twisted updo.”
Plus, we hear there was one other important pre-gala step made two days before the big night: Some self-tan from ST TROPEZ. “To compliment Ashley’s dress, her skin needed to be flawless and the perfect shade of olive,” shares ST TROPEZ Skin Finishing Expert, Sophie Evans. “Ashley’s’ Signature Deep Glow was created using ‘Supreme’ to create a deep, flawless olive tan as the perfect compliment to her natural makeup and that spectacular shiny chain material gown.”
