Going au naturel is the new glam—and according to a recent article by USA Today, actress Andie MacDowell has become a shining example of this shift. In a new segment from the Drew Barrymore Show, MacDowell broke down her reasoning behind embracing her now silver ‘do and how quarantine has given her the opportunity to embrace her “relaxed looks.”

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen in five years; I might color my hair again, but I’m enjoying it right now,” says the 62-year-old while dishing about her decision to halt her hair-coloring appointments since the start of COVID.

Referencing a USA Today report regarding women feeling “liberated from societal beauty standards” during the quarantine era, MacDowell tells Barrymore that her new look took some convincing. “What happened was, I wasn’t coloring my hair, and it was half-colored back here,” she says, pointing to the back of her head. “You could see my roots, and my daughters kept telling me that I looked bad ass. And the idea that I could look bad ass really appealed to me. So I went for it, and I am enjoying it.”

The Groundhog Day actress also notes that allowing her natural roots to grow out is not a sign of giving up. “I always correct people: ‘It’s not grey, it’s silver,'” she says. “It’s not that I’m letting myself go. I don’t think of it that way.” In fact, we think MacDowell looks just as good now as she did in her 30’s, just with an added spark.
