Ever get one of those so-large, so-painful, so absolutely, positively, no-covering-it-up pimples? Before you call the post office and see if it can get its own zip code, take celeb makeup artist Daniel Martin’s advice—the main step costs $7 and it’s his foolproof fix for helping hide even big-time imperfections on the big screen—for magically making it go away.

“If I see a pimple coming up, I always try to zap it with the Tria Blue Light first. This kills as much bacteria as it can before I start my layering process with the makeup,” Martin says. “After the Tria, I apply the brand’s serum to settle the skin.”

Sound likes a very smart skin care scenario, but here’s the genius makeup move that you most likely would have never though of: “I then apply the NYX Eyeshadow Primer on top of that and let it dry down for about a minute. This absorbs the oil from the blemish, but also creates a barrier to lock-down concealer and foundation I’ll do on top.”

“I then lay down the foundation first and the concealer afterward (I do this reverse process because the foundation let’s me see how much I need to cover before I go in with a heavier coverage from the concealer). After I reach my desired coverage, I set with a finishing powder. I love Diorskin Forever & Ever Control Loose Powder for this.”
