At tonight's 75th Emmy Awards, we were surprised to see so many shades of crimson and plum on the lips of Hollywood's biggest stars. Typically reserved for the fall, the wine-stained lip look is a vibe, and also perfectly suited for the cool winter season. It's also an easy way to make head turns on the red carpet.
Only Murders in the Building star Selena Gomez paired her custom Oscar de la Renta gown with a plum lip. To get the perfect shade, celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo mixed two shades of Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipstick: Strong (a rich chocolate brown) and Devoted (a classic red). Devoted launched in the fall and was a limited-edition shade that is no longer available. A Rare Impact product, 100-percent of the sales of the Devoted lipstick went to the Rare Impact Fund, which Gomez created to increase access to mental health services for young people. Vanngo also applied Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lip Liner in Strong.
The actress and singer's bold lashes contributed to her sultry, vampy vibe. Vanngo used the Lashify LED Control Kit to create "a bespoke, dimensional lash look." He first applied the Bold Black Gossamer Lashes in B8 and B10; then Drama Black Gossamer Lashes in D10 and D12 from inner to outer corner. "For extra volume, I stacked a few C12 [Curl Black Gossamer Lashes] on the outer upper corner,” he says.
