Men are becoming increasingly comfortable seeking in-office treatments for the face and body. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons shared what treatments they see men get the most in their practices. The overall focus for men was was anti-aging, but there’s also a bit of body sculpting in there.

Botulinum toxin

Men love toxins, says Louisville, KY plastic surgeon M. Bradley Calobrace, MD. Nanuet, NY dermatologist Heidi Waldorf, MD confirms this by telling us the number-one procedure for men in her practice continues to be botulinum toxin injection, especially between the eyebrows and the forehead. “The men I see are less concerned about having a ‘perfect’ complexion and more about deep wrinkles like those of the upper face,” says Dr. Waldorf.

Scottsdale, AZ facial plastic surgeon James Bouzoukis, MD notes that men like the minimal downtime and natural-looking improvement that comes with neurotoxins. “They look more refreshed and less tired,” says Dr. Bouzoukis. He notes that neurotoxins to the glabella, crow’s-feet and forehead are popular with his male patients and pair well with under-eye filler.

People have various preferences when it comes to which neurotoxin they want. Dr. Calobrace notes that Daxxify’s longer duration makes it a popular choice alongside Botox Cosmetic. However, he says, “Jeuveau can be great for men. Just increase the dose to replicate Daxxify, and it can create very precise long-lasting results.” He adds that this “was confirmed in a recent study comparing updosed Jeauveau and Daxxify.”

The doctors say men don’t stop at the face when it comes to neurotoxins. Dr. Bouzoukis says “Scrotox” is a common treatment men seek out. “Some providers are actually injecting Botox to smooth scrotum wrinkles,” he explains.

Filler

Experts say men like using filler for a variety of different concerns. “While everyone wants filler to make them appear less tired, filler is also useful to create and maintain a masculine angular face and strong jawline,” says Dr. Waldorf. Dr. Bouzoukis says under-eye filler is a popular choice in his practice for “male patients in their 30s with congenital under-eye volume deficiency and men in their 40s and 50s with age-related volume loss.” He notes that men typically require a bit more volume than women. Additionally, “a second session six to 12 weeks after the first injection maximizes their improvement.”

Fractionated lasers

Dr. Waldorf says men are often less concerned about having “smooth, spotless skin.” She notes the men in her practice don’t want “baby skin,” but also don’t want to have old, rough, spotted skin. Dr. Waldorf often performs resurfacing with fractionated lasers like the Fraxel Dual, which “improves texture and color and even pre-cancerous actinic keratosis.” Following the treatment, “the skin looks younger and healthier,” she adds.

“The Moxi laser is also a winner for men,” says Dr. Calobrace. He notes that it’s an easy treatment that is sure to improve skin with minimal downtime. It also has no interaction with hair growth and can be done on all skin types and in the summer after sun exposure, says Dr. Calobrace.

Body contouring

Men are often just as aware of their bodies as women, so it doesn’t come as a shock that Dr. Calobrace says men love body contouring with treatments like Emsculpt NEO. “It shrinks the fat and helps build muscle and definition,” he explains.
