New Beauty Trend: Oscillating Makeup Brushes

The beauty tools you didn’t know you needed—until now.

Rotating Makeup Brushes

When devices vibrate, oscillate or rotate on their own, it’s believed that they work better. It’s logical. Think about your electric toothbrush—you could never brush the same spot on your tooth 7,000 times a minute like your Sonicare can. Manual labor just can’t compete with machine. Or at least, this is the thinking behind the new foundation application tools coming on the market.

There is a recent trend in makeup applicators—the faster it moves the product on to your skin, the better. The Doll 10 BlendSmart Rotating Foundation Brush ($66), for example, rotates 190 times per minute and buffs on liquid, cream or powder foundation. The idea behind this is that when you apply makeup to your face with a traditional brush or sponge, you are displacing product and wasting it. With a rotating brush, however, you use less product because it is being polished onto and into your skin.

Another recent launch is the Color Me Automatic Foundation Applicator Kit ($54). Instead of a brush head, this device features a pulsating sponge, which mimics rapid finger tapping for a stippled, air-brush effect.

It seems makeup machines are the future, and we are on board!
