Melissa Gilbert is well known for her role in Little House on the Prairie, but now we know her as a reminder that aging is a beautiful part of life. On Saturday, the now 57-year-old posted an all-natural birthday selfie on Instagram, and along with her glowing face, her caption put a major grin on our faces.
"This is 57," Gilbert writes in her post. "No makeup, no filter, in jammies, sitting in a recliner. This is me finally happy in my own skin. No fillers or Botox, no implants, no hair color. Just me. This is happy. This is healthy. This is strong. This is rooted. This is confident."
Gilbert praises her natural self in all of her glory, but she also notes that her present self has gone through some bodily changes. "Yes my joints are a bit stiffer, yes I don't have the physical strength I once had, but I look at that as one of the gifts of aging. It forces me to slow down and be more mindful. It’s just a joy to be here to watch my children and their children grow."
With her silver strands and glowing skin, it's safe to say that Gilbert has never looked better. When we find ourselves loathing older age, let her looks and her kind words remind us to step back and realize how lucky we are to be healthy and happy, no matter our age.
