A good picture is worth a thousand words, and a bad picture is worth about zero! Nothing ruins a happy moment more than a smear of mascara under your eyes or overzealous blush. Here are five common makeup mistakes that make pictures worth deleting and how to fix them. Raccoon EyesIt’s happened to the best of us. Halfway through the night your mascara has decided to migrate down under your eyes right when someone snaps a photo. The common assumption is to blame the mascara, but more often than not it’s the combination of the eye cream or face makeup and the mascara you are wearing that has caused it to melt down your face. To stop this from happening, dust your entire eyelid and under-eye area with translucent powder, which will help absorb any excess oil on your lids that may cause mascara to slip. Then, look for a mascara formula that is either waterproof or has tube technology, as they tend not to smudge, but instead, flake lightly off. Noticeable ConcealerFirst and foremost, your concealer should never be more than one shade lighter than your skin tone. Also, contrary to popular belief, you should apply your concealer first and then apply your foundation. This way, as you buff your foundation onto your skin, you are helping your concealer blend seamlessly for the most natural look. Oily Skin A little bit of shine helps you look youthful, but too much and your forehead will be reflecting the flash. If you have oily skin, use a powder-based foundation to keep your face matte, and then add a bit of highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and a touch above the Cupid’s bow of your lips. This will give you just the right amount of glisten. Bleeding LipstickWith age, lipstick starts to bleed into your fine lines a wrinkles around your mouth. To keep this from happening, try tracing a line of clear lip liner around the outside of your lips to keep the color in place. Also, make sure to blot your lips with a tissue after application. Then, apply a dusting of translucent powder over them to set the lipstick in place.
Noticeable PowderYou’ve seen the famous images of celebs caught with white powder all over their face. Well, it can happen to you, too, with a heavy flash. If you are trying a new foundation or powder for the first time, make sure to take a few test photos of yourself on your way to a big event to make sure that invisible powder is actually invisible in all lighting situations.
