When it comes to celebrity hair, Chris Appleton’s hands are basically gold. The stylist behind some of Hollywood’s most iconic looks—including Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa, to name just a handful—recently pulled back the curtain on what his services can actually cost... and the number is enough to make even beauty insiders do a double take.
During a recent appearance on the U Up? podcast, where he discussed his new book, Your Roots Don’t Define You, Appleton was asked about the highest fee he’s ever charged for a haircut. While he was quick to note that his prices haven’t always been astronomical, the top end of the spectrum lands firmly in six-figure territory.
“I’ve charged everything from $100 back in the day,” Appleton shared, before admitting that one ultra-exclusive appointment climbed all the way to $100,000. The jaw-dropping fee, however, wasn’t for a routine salon visit. “That was to travel, and it was a one-off,” he explained.
Appleton also added important context around the six-figure price tag: “Don’t forget you get taxed 50 percent and your agent takes something,” he said. In other words, that final take-home amount “gets dwindled down.”
And while a $100,000 haircut may sound shocking, Appleton emphasized that these fees are rare and highly situational, not his standard rate.
The takeaway: In an era where beauty expertise is currency and perfection is expected at all times, the cost of looking flawless—especially under the world’s spotlight—can be very, very high.
