Though not the country music celebration many had in mind thanks to COVID precautions, this year's CMT Awards did not disappoint. And celebrities—even those who couldn't attend and pre-recorded their introductions from afar, like Busy Philipps—still took advantage of the opportunity to get full-on glam. Country singer Mickey Guyton was able to be there live, performing with not only Gladys Knight, but also Breland, and earning a standing ovation. However, though the music was surely the crowd-pleaser, we couldn't take our eyes off the beauty, and we spotted a big trend worn two different ways on both of these A-listers: green eyeshadow. One of the biggest eye makeup trends for 2021, and especially summertime, it's such a fun, refreshing break from the neutrals we saw this spring, and surprisingly easy to wear.
Philipps wore mint green eyeshadow—her whole look gave us major I Dream of Jeannie vibes in the best way—courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Gita Bass, who appears to have gotten her inspiration for the color from stylist Karla Welch's pick of the gorgeous mint green two-piece Georges Hobeika ensemble (pictured below). "Thanks @karlawelchstylist for making my mint green fantasy come true," Bass wrote on Instagram.
Bass layered two shades from the Lime Crime Aura Palette ($30)—Starry and Midnight—with the mint green and pewter shades from the limited-edition (and no longer available) Tom Ford Soleil et Lune Eye Color Quad. For the liner, she used Laura Mercier Inner Eye Definer in Nightfall, a dark green.
To get the pastel green look at home, try ColourPop's Mint to Be Shadow Palette ($14), which contains nine shades of green to fully embrace the trend, or go full-on mint with MAC's solo Eye Shadow in Mint Condition ($18). And finally, if you want to take a subtler approach, apply e.l.f.'s new Mint Melt No Budge Eyeshadow Stick ($5) along your lash line.
Guyton also took part in the trend: Celebrity makeup artist D'Andre Michael used the shade Dark Paradise from Pat McGrath Labs Mthrshp Sublime Bronze Temptation Eyeshadow Palette (it was limited-edition so it's sadly not available anymore) on the eyelids and shade Supernova on the lower eyelid. He finished the emerald look with NYX Black Shimmer Slim Eye Pencil inside the lower eyelid lash waterline, and Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara.
