We’ve all heard of double cleansing for the face, and, for many of us, there’s no going back to a single cleanse. But have you considered that, like your face, your body might benefit from two different formulas? Board-certified Hamden, CT dermatologist Mona Gohara, MD, wants you to cocktail your body washes in power couples—or even trios.

“The benefit of cocktailing body washes is the efficacy, absorption and results (or all of the above) for healthier looking and glowy skin. The process is easy and customizable based on your skin-care needs,” says Dr. Gohara. We use a variety of serums, toners, cleansers and moisturizers on our face, why shouldn't our body receive the same level of TLC?

While double cleansing is more of a two-step skin-care technique to ensure no makeup, SPF or dirt is left behind, the cocktailing method for body washes “focuses on combining different products to address multiple skin-care needs for your body while also cleansing and moisturizing your skin,” explains Dr. Gohara.

Don’t know where to start? Dr. Gohara has some suggestions. Dove recently launched nine serum body washes, all designed with different benefits in mind, so they're perfect for pairing. For stubborn ingrown hairs, she recommends an acne formula paired with an exfoliating formula “to help remove dead skin cells and help liberate hairs that are stuck at the follicle,” like Dove Acne Clear Serum Body Wash ($10) and Exfoliate Away Serum Body Wash ($10).

To reduce pigmentation on your underarms, elbows, knees or inner thighs, Dr. Gohara recommends cocktailingDove Melanin Even Tone Serum Body Wash ($10) with Glow Recharge Serum Body Wash ($10). “To stack up on a tried-and-true moisturizing routine, use Dove Hydration Boost Serum Body Wash with Glow Recharge Serum Body Wash for an extra summer glow or Melanin Radiance Serum Body Wash ($10) for an added boost of radiance,” says Dr. Gohara. Other options include ultra-sensitive, soothing and vitality-supporting formulas.
