I can’t say I recall what the last drugstore razor I purchased was because disposable razors tend to be unremarkable. I do know I usually grab a blue one or a pink one and make sure that it has the strips that make shaving in the shower a little more tolerable, but I wouldn’t know it by name or recommend it to my friends. My latest drugstore find, however, is quite remarkable and might just be the best hair removal tool I’ve ever owned.
The Gillette Venus Miami Sunset Comfortglide ($13) is worth all the hype I’m about to bestow upon it. I don’t think I’ve ever paid this much attention to a razor’s handle before, but the Sunset and Sunrise Comfortglide handles are super lightweight, ergonomic and come with a vibrant, Magic City-inspired design.
The best part about this iteration of the Comfortglide is the amount of thought that went into making something that is often considered disposable into a more sustainable-use product. Not only is its design inspired by Miami, it is also designed to be reused to reduce waste. Each of the refills lasts for up to one month of shaving. Reusing the handle for five years instead of one can amount to an 80 percent reduction in waste.
The Benefits:
The tropical smelling built-in moisture bars around the blades not only smooth, they also protect from nicks and cuts. My legs and underarms feel so hydrated, it’s almost like an exfoliation and moisturizing treatment in one.
Gillette is also making it easier to reduce waste by working to increase the use of post-recycled content to reduce the virgin plastic use by 50 percent. The plastic-free refillable boxes also help to reduce a significant amount of waste.
Ingredients:
Vitamin E and kokum butter
Bottom Line:
Ditch the shaving cream and pick up enough refills to last you all summer because you’re going to never want to put this razor down.
