A Minute With

1.
CAREER-DEFINING PROCEDURE
The one procedure which has changed my career is Botox, which I call the “Big Bang” of facial aesthetics
2.
THE FUTURE OF MY FIELD
The future of the field is expanding on the palette of skin care, injectables and energy-based devices and using them in combination for a true nonsurgical facial and non-facial rejuvenation
3.
MOST OUTRAGEOUS MEDICAL MYTH I’VE HEARD
Many people still believe that dramatic results can only be achieved through surgical means
4.
HOW MY PROFESSION HAS EVOLVED
In this profession there are some providers with limited education and expertise who claim to be aesthetic experts, I refer to them as “pretenders;” I always tell my patients to seek board-certified core specialty physicians that practice within their scope, nothing can replace real education and expertise
5.
WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY PROFESSION
I’ve been able to be a part of cutting-edge clinical trials that have truly changed the landscape of aesthetics; I’ve also helped educate the next generation of core specialty physicians such as board- certified dermatologists in venues such as the Cosmetic Bootcamp—they are the future of our specialty
6.
THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT MY PROFESSION
That one “tool”—as opposed to multiple modalities—can address all of the issues of any given medical or cosmetic condition; when in actuality, most treatments require a multimodal approach

About Me

Face of the Future

“Establishing a trusting relationship with patients is a vital part of my philosophy,” Dr. Narurkar stresses. Treating patients like members of its “family” has made the Bay Area Laser Institute a practice that thrives from referrals, both by patients and his peers—including other dermatologists and plastic surgeons. “I find it humbling when other doctors trust me not only with their skin-care needs, but with those of their families and patients as well.” Keeping in line with his respect for continuing education, the dermatologist participates in pro-bono work, parlaying his skills in other mediums, contributing to greater causes. Whether he is teaching residents at UC Davis or co-directing Cosmetic Bootcamp®, an education venue for core aesthetic physicians, Dr. Narurkar finds a great deal of satisfaction in mentoring new talent and helping improve the lives of others through his skills. “Educating the next generation is paramount to me, as is helping others improve their self-worth. I really enjoy the personal gratification dermatology brings me.”

Insider Information

The San Francisco-based doctor began his career in academics, where he ran the University of California Davis Laser Center, and continues to serve there as an associate clinical professor. His inquisitive love for education led him to research developmental uses for a host of technologies, including the FraxelTM SR Laser and combination treatments with Botox® and fillers. When not pursuing the next great medical advancement, Dr. Narurkar offers patients a multitude of nonsurgical modalities, such as photofacials, Radiesse®, Juvéderm® and the ever-popular Botox®. In fact, his practice is a Botox training center where other doctors come to learn proper injection techniques. “Possessing the skills to make patients happy is just one aspect of what I do. The other involves dedicating myself to ongoing research.”

The modern, boutique practice strives to be accommodating and accessible to patients every step of the way, starting with a personal consultation and ending with a natural-looking outcome, all executed by the dermatologist himself. “I perform the consultations and the procedures because I feel that the initial trust-building aspect is imperative to forging a solid partnership where both doctor and patient work together, toward a common goal. From there, once a mode of action is established, I realize the patient’s vision to the best of my abilities, in relation to my perception of their goals and in tandem with a discerning, artistic approach.”

FAQ's

Q. if a second treatment for cool sculpting is desired, how much time should elapse before the second treatment?

What our experts say:

Treatment to transformation with coolsculpting results in the best outcomes. We generally recommend six weeks before repeating a second treatment and almost every patient is treated with a second treatment to get the best results.

Q. which is the best laser for sagging, thermage or ultera

What our experts say:

For skin laxity we use thermage over any other modalities as it has evolved over ten years of FDA clearance with optimal protocols and outcomes and most notably exceptional comfort during treatments. The Total tip with the CPT thermage is now our go to treatment for skin sagging and can be used on the face, neck and body. Other technologies are promising but the presence of pain is an issue as well as protocols which are still being refined.

Q. How can I achieve a natural appearance without surgery?

What our experts say:

I am able to address global rejuvenation of the face and body. Botox cosmetic will relax lines of expression, dermal fillers will replace volume, Fraxel lasers and Photofacials improve the skin, and Thermage treats laxity. Using an artistic approach that combines a creative eye and sound medical judgment, I can use these various tools to create a natural and youthful appearance.

Q. How do you feel about Medical Grade Aloe Vera, such is what is found in TreSkinRX?

What our experts say:

I have seen wonderful results with their "Clear Skin" system, with aloe as the key, base ingredient rather then water, it penetrates into the innermost layers of skin.

Q. My son fell and split his lip open which required 3 stitches above his upper lip and one inside. What is the best product out there to eliminate his scar?

What our experts say:

The best product for scars is the Skin medica scar recovery gel. We will often use this in conjunction with lasers such as the fraxel for scars.
