When I reflect on my years in the beauty industry, certain game-changing innovations come to mind first, like dry shampoo, clear sunscreen and tubing mascara. The latter brings me to this review of a product I’ve been using for years and have recommended to just about everyone I know: Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara ($26). Here’s why it tops my chart.
The Benefits of This Tubing Mascara
I’ve seen over a dozen new tubing mascaras launch in the past year or so, but none stand up to the performance of this little teal tube. Some are good, don’t get me wrong, but not quite on the same level. I’m taking several factors into consideration: the richness of the color, the transfer-proof properties, and the length and definition it gives (most tubing mascaras aren’t known for volume, but of course I keep that in mind, too). And of course let’s not forget the ease of removal, as that’s arguably the biggest benefit of tubing versus traditional formulas.
Now let’s look at how Thrive stacks up. The formula is a rich jet-black—almost ink-like—which contributes to the instant makeover I get when I apply it on my blonde, barely there lashes (see my before-and-after images below). The lengthening effect was enough to make me audibly gasp when I used it the first few times. My lashes take on a whole new personality when wearing this mascara. They see it coming, and they smile.
I love the definition I get as well, especially after a couple coats. I tend to lean more toward a fuller, fluttery look, but you could also do one coat for a lighter, well-defined, everyday look. My lashes stay put from morning to night with no transferring or smudging. And in the case of removal, this formula gets top marks. It slides off wet lashes in seconds without any tugging or makeup remover—just water. And let me tell you, not all tubing mascaras live up to their claims in this department. I’ve come out of the shower with raccoon eyes on more than one (disappointing) occasion while testing tubing products from other brands.
The bottom line is if you’re interested in trying tubing mascara, start with this one because you won’t be disappointed.
