Maybe it was inevitable. I’ve worked in advertising for more than twelve years; I’ve seen the ups and downs of an industry where there are virtually no rules, and I love producing TV commercials. But, in the wake of the economic downturn, I was laid off. So you know what I really need (especially on an innocuous mid-week afternoon)? I need a bath. I need, like, four baths.
As an east-coast resident who gravitates toward regional products, I was drawn to a fun new brand called Joyful Bath Co., which came to light in Maryland, and I’ve been all over their Oatsy Floatsie Relaxing Bath Salts. It comes in a terrific reusable jar with a sweet little label, and it’s so all-natural that it has a use-by date to avoid spoilage. (You can count the number of ingredients on one hand!)
For the record, I am not always a bath-taker. I’m from smack in the middle of the States, not from France. And I find that a lot of bath salts-basically anything granular-has a tendency to settle on the bottom of the tub, making you feel like a goldfish swimming along a bed of rocks and pebbles. But Joyful Bath Co.’s wares dissolve almost instantly in warm water. With Oatsy Floatsie, the oatmeal works great for softening your skin, Epsom salts help detoxify the body, and lavender calms your senses and leaves you smelling terrific.
I used to equate baths with relaxing or trying to go to sleep, but Joyful Bath Co. makes their bath salts in a variety of stimuli, ranging from Refreshing to Releasing to Recharging to Relieving and Renewing. They even encourage you to mix, so if you want to Recharge and Renew, or if you just like how different fragrances blend together, try it out. They even offer a six-pack to experiment with.
Especially adorable: all purchases come with a funny doorknob hanger that reads, “Shh, quiet please. Bath in progress.”
Sometimes it can be harder to remember to bathe-particularly if you don’t currently have a reason to look (or smell) presentable. But now I look forward to getting ready for the day because these bath salts are more stimulating than the actual economy.
