Like many other celebs, actress Sofia Carson got her start on the Disney Channel. Now, more than a decade later, the 31-year-old has multiple Netflix films in the queue, an ambassadorship with L’Oréal Paris, and nearly 20 million Instagram followers. Did we mention she’s also an incredible singer? On the heels of her time in Cannes for the annual Film Festival, the A-lister found a few moments to talk beauty with us. Here, she shares her favorite products, routine essentials, upcoming projects and more.
Which beauty trends are you loving right now?
“I love and have always loved ‘cloud skin.’ I’ve always been a fan of softly mattified makeup. I think it feels elegant and still effortlessly fresh.”
Do you get any beauty tips from TikTok?
“I learn most of my TikTok beauty tips from my sister who is my makeup guru. She taught me about TikTok’s obsession with blush, which at first I was skeptical about. But recently, I have become slightly obsessed with blush for the first time in my life. So, of all the TikTok beauty tips, I’m currently following the blush obsession.”
I know you also love mascara. Do you have a favorite one?
“The L’Oréal Paris Panorama Mascara ($16). I love mascara, and this one lengthens my lashes so beautifully.”
As a L’Oréal Paris ambassador, you must have many favorite products. Which others do you love?
“I have loved L’Oréal Paris products since I was a little girl. I grew up as a dancer using Elnett hairspray ($23), my loyal companion for each and every dance recital. And still, to this day, Elnett is by my side. I think my current favorite product is a tie between the Panorama Mascara and the Infallible Setting Mist ($11), which is truly extraordinary. The night of the Cannes Closing Ceremony, my makeup did not move from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m., through photo shoots, video shoots and red carpets.”
You wore a beautiful nude lip in Cannes. Is that shade one of your go-tos?
“I have always loved a nude lip—it feels classic and timeless, yet fresh. My current favorite, which I wore during the Cannes Closing Ceremony red carpet, is L’Oréal Paris Color Riche Satin Lipstick ($10) in the shade Worth It. It’s the most beautiful nude that carries a slight pink undertone for an absolutely perfect lip.
I like to line my lips with a slightly darker liner that adds subtle definition. Then I use my the Color Riche all over my lips. I like to layer a few coats, especially if I’m walking a carpet. And, depending on my mood and look, I’ll either add a bit of gloss on top or keep it matte.”
What about removing your makeup? What does your cleansing routine look like these days?
“I cleanse my skin every morning with ice cold water. I love starting my mornings with cold water on my skin. It awakens and tightens my skin instantly. I follow this with moisturizer and my Bright Reveal Broad Spectrum SPF ($28).
In the evening, I wash my face with warm water to remove my makeup and cleanse my pores. My cleanser, ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Cleanser ($49), has small exfoliating beads that add a bit of subtle exfoliation as I cleanse. And in addition, approximately three times a week, I exfoliate with a a gentle scrub, the ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Polish ($68). Especially over the last few months, as I’ve been shooting a movie where I have makeup on for 14 hours a day.”
What projects are you working on right now?
“I am so happy to say that my film Carry On, will be released on Netflix this year. It’s produced by Steven Spielberg and stars Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman and myself. I can’t wait to share this with the world. Two weeks ago, I finished shooting my next Netflix film The Life List alongside the brilliant Connie Britton. It was the most magical experience that I cannot wait to share with you.
Next month, I have the immense honor of performing with Andrea Bocelli in Tuscany for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of his career. And, I am currently in pre-production for a project I am not allowed to talk about quite yet, but you will find out soon. There are also a few others I may or may not be producing and starring in.”
