When we think of our favorite A-listers’ self-care routines, our minds tend to go to the glitz and glamour of professional makeup artists, high-end hairstylists and, of course, the best of the best in celebrity facialists. But, for the Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johansson, facials evoke more fear than relaxation. Though the actress has become a skin-care guru herself with the launch of her brand The Outset, the 38-year-old just revealed the surprisingly relatable reason why she’s scared of getting professional facials.
Scarlett Johansson’s Facial Fear
In a recent interview with Allure, Johansson shared all the ins and outs of her beauty routine, from her makeup favorites to her hair-care and skin musts. When looking at Scarlett and her glowing complexion, it’s hard to imagine she’s had any skin insecurities in her past, but shockingly enough, the star revealed that her previous struggles with acne have sparked her fear of getting facials.
“I’m not a facial person. I am scared of them,” she began, “I think because I had acne for so long, I was just terrified of anybody touching my face. I cannot tell you the last time I got a facial. I use masks on myself, but yeah, I’m not a facial person. I should probably get over that because I have friends that have amazing skin that get facials regularly. So maybe there’s something to it.”
Continuing on the streak of being candid about her skin issues, Johansson also revealed that her struggles with melasma have also shaped her skin-care journey. “This summer, I was testing SPFs because we’re still in the process of finalizing [The Outset’s] formula,” she explains, “Kate (The Outset co-founder) says I have to use SPF every day, and I believe her, and my best friend is also on top of me because she’s had skin cancer scares. I have melasma, too. That’s also why I use SPF.”
