It may seem like Rosamund Pike channeled her Saltburn character on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet, as the nominee paired her lacy, black Dior gown with an intricate fascinator. However, the 44-year-old star says she wore her showstopping “protective veil” due to an accident. Nominated for “Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture,” her red-carpet look became an instant talking point.
When chatting with Variety’s Marc Malkin on the red carpet, Pike shared that the unconventional accessory was more than just a nod to her Saltburn character, Lady Elspeth Catton. “Well, you know, you have to channel it, don’t you?” she remarked. “Either a sort of weird funeral vibe or maybe she wore black for her wedding.”
Pike went on to say that the purpose of the lacy accessory was actually to shield her face. “It’s a protective veil,” said the actress. “I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident and I had to think. It’s not what you want, knowing you’re coming to the Golden Globes.”
“I need to do something,” Pike recalled. The lacy veil certainly did something as it was a surefire head-turner and cemented her red-carpet win as the most memorable style of 2024 so far. “I kind of fell in love with the look,” she added.
Under the veiled look Pike radiated natural beauty with a full face of Dior from makeup artist Melanie Inglessis. Achieving a flawless complexion, Inglessis utilized Dior Forever Glow Veil primer ($50) in combination with Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation ($55) and Skin Glow Concealer ($40), both in shade 2N. For a velvety nude lip that epitomizes “effortless luxury,” Inglessis applied Dior’s latest Rouge Dior Couture Color Lipstick in shade #100 Nude, offering a subtle “her lips but better” hue.
