Rinsing Your Hair With This Could Be the Actual Secret to Shinier Hair

It’s a known fact that once you cook a pot of rice, you dump out the water. There’s no point in saving that water, especially when you consider the fact that it’s cloudy and dirty.

But it’s come to our attention that maybe we shouldn’t be ditching that pot of rice water just so fast. The brains behind Brit + Co say that washing with water is actually an Asian tradition—maybe that’s how they get their hair so shiny.

Over in Asia, the water that’s left after boiling rice is saved and used as a rinse to better the hair. The idea is to douse hair in the water after washing with shampoo and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out, leaving hair looking super shiny and strong.

While we haven’t tried out the trend ourselves (just yet), we have to say that it doesn’t sound all that out-there considering the fact that fermented rice and rice powders have been used in skin care products for years. Hey, if it can work wonders for your skin, then it should, theoretically, do the same for your hair.
