Makeup guru Paulina Galindo is a pretty big deal—on more than one continent. With more than 9 million YouTube followers and almost as many on Instagram, she’s captured the attention of beauty-obsessed women across the globe. The 26-year-old Colombian-born influencer, also known as Pautips, has amassed this following because of her easy-to-follow advice and her always uplifting approach. With a new LUXIE x Pautips brush collaboration, she’s giving fans exactly what they need to follow along with the best possible tools.
The collection features LUXIE’s high-quality, vegan brushes in three Miami-inspired sets that take the guesswork out of getting glammed up. With a Miami Nights Eye Set ($60), Art Deco Blending Set ($75) and the must-have Dual Side Travel Set ($120), she’s thought of it all. Here, she takes a moment to catch up with us to talk beauty, brushes and the one Pautip everyone should be doing before they leave the house.
We love that you’re launching your collab with LUXIE during Hispanic Heritage Month. How has your culture and upbringing inspired you?
Being Colombian and coming to the United States, bringing my culture with me is so important. We are very hard-working people and I apply that work ethic to everything I do. I bring that approach to everything, even if it’s going to be hard, like learning a different language. But we have that in our roots. We’re not afraid to do anything.
Yes. I just learned we Latinas spend nearly 30 percent more than other ethnicities on beauty products.
Latin Americans, even Brazilians, we invest a lot in beauty. From the beauty treatments we try and the products we buy, it’s in our blood and we like to feel pretty. Taking care of how we look helps us feel empowered. I think that’s why I’ve done well on social media. It’s not just about makeup, my message is about empowering yourself. I like to show my followers that it’s not just about grooming, it’s also about working on my dreams. I didn’t have anything when I started. I didn’t even have a camera. But I never gave up and that’s helped me get to where I am now.
What are some things you’ve learned since your first video that have helped you grow?
Before I didn’t pay attention to my lighting. But now, I think it’s important for people to see high-quality images of what I’m doing because I’m teaching something. Also, I learned that you don’t need to put that much product on your face. Now with COVID and masks, people really appreciate natural-looking makeup, and they just want to take really good care of their skin. That’s a pretty big switch from what I used to do.
What is one thing PauTip that everyone should follow?
Always set your face with powder when you want your makeup to last. I think sometimes people think that it’s way too much to set their makeup, but it really does hold it all together and makes it last longer. A good powder shouldn’t feel like another layer, but a lot of people are afraid to do that as a last step.
This is your first ever collaboration. Why is LUXIE the perfect brand to partner with?
I’ve used LUXIE brushes for many years. I love that they’re vegan and the highest quality. When it got the opportunity to collaborate, I was amazed. They really believe in my talent, and I believe in the brand, so it was a perfect match.
What is your best Pautip for using these brushes?
I love that we have included double ended brushes. That to me is so useful because when I travel, I don’t want to bring so many things with me. One good tip is that if you’re going to switch between using creams and powders, you don’t need to use a separate brush. You can use the same contour brush to apply your cream or powder brush because they’re all synthetic.
Do you have a favorite?
For me it’s the Kabuki brush. It has a flat side for application and a thicker side for blending the product out. With the Dual Side Travel kit you can do your entire face with just those four double sided brushes. I did a whole video on it because it really has everything you need.
What makeup products do you always carry with you in your purse?
I always have a matte lipstick and a lip oil.
What is your best advice for mastering a modern look?
I’m known for my brows, so I would say pay attention to your eyes and your brows the most. They really frame your face and if you have your brows done, you can master both a full face of makeup or a natural look and always look polished.
