Move over, hyaluronic acid—there’s a new skin-care favorite (or, rather, a few) taking over as the most popular ingredient of 2025. According to Spate, collagen has topped the list of the most popular skin-care ingredients of the year, racking up over 318,000 searches per month within the last 12 months.

Spate is a data-driven platform that uses consumer search signals to identify trends, and the brand just released a huge report calling out the most searched and viewed ingredients across the skin, hair and body categories. Over 20 billion search signals and 60 million TikTok videos were analyzed for the report; for TikTok the platform recorded the average weekly views of videos with the ingredients in their hashtags, and the increase in views of said videos this year versus last year. Spate also recorded the monthly search volume each ingredient averaged alongside the difference in search volume between this year and last year.

Collagen is an ingredient that’s central to most anti-aging products. It’s naturally produced by your body, but when applied topically or ingested, in can increase skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Alongside the massive amount of Google searches it received, videos featuring #collagen also received just under 77 million views on TikTok. Per the report, most people searching both platforms are looking for collagen-rich products to address signs of aging and skin barrier issues.

Beef tallow also appeared on the list, with over 17,000 Google searches a month and nearly 101 million TikTok views. (Beef tallow had a pretty big moment on the app last year, with thousands of users making claims that it can reduce acne and breakouts, so this isn’t very shocking.) Hypochlorous acid and ketoconazole also had pretty massive wins in search for consumers looking for barrier repair products and hair products that can reduce flakiness and dandruff.
