Some of their first steps were captured on camera, but now, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are fully-grown, beautiful women with a massive net worth. The actresses, turned fashion icons, have also graduated from wearing matching outfits to even, matching noses. When looking at pictures of the starlets in the 90s and now, it’s clear they have had nose jobs, each seemingly getting a different shaped nose.
“Both clearly have had rhinoplasty and likely by the same doctor,” says Morristown, NJ, plastic surgeon Brian Glatt, MD. “The tips [of their noses] were thicker and bulbous before and have been shaved down to more of a ‘point’.”
Scottsdale, AZ, plastic surgeon Marc Malek, MD, agrees. “It appears both have had rhinoplasty. Typically as we age the nasal tip gets fuller not thinner [like theirs].” However, while both women’s “nasal tips are a bit narrower and triangular in shape as the nostrils taper towards the top of the nose,” they no longer have identical shapes, says Dr. Malek. “Mary Kate has a slightly more sloped nose due to bit more resection of the nasal bridge.”
It is interesting to consider how an elective procedure, like a nose job, can effect the overall look of the face and how just millimeters can make nearly identical twins look quite different. “They most likely had the same surgeon who tried to reproduce the same changes. Unfortunately the nose is unpredictable at times during the healing phase—it is difficult to make both exact. Only Mother Nature and DNA can truly make twins,” says Dr. Malek.
