“Choosing a universally flattering lipstick comes down to a few different factors that can help you find the right pick,” says celebrity makeup artist and Ulta Beauty Pro Team Member Mat Wulff. “Undertones, color intensity and, most importantly, personal preference will all play a role in choosing a flattering shade.”

To make it easy on yourself, though, Wulff says to stick to the five universal lipstick colors: rosy pinks, berry tones, classic reds, peachy nudes and neutral mauves.
