Poosh founder Kourtney Kardashian says her latest detox endeavor was tough and involved fasting from workouts, sex and a very strict and specific diet. “So, I’m doing this Ayurvedic cleanse right now,” she told Bustle. “It’s called Panchakarma. You can’t eat anything cold; you can’t drink anything cold. It’s for 12 days. No sex. No working out. It’s crazy.”
Panchakarma, a practice that football player Aaron Rodgers recently said he underwent, is an Ayurvedic healing practice from India that balances energy with diet, meditation and lifestyle changes to promote better health. Kardashian shared that while it was difficult to do, she found the end result to be worth it. “It actually made everything better,” she said. “Like, if you can’t have caffeine, when you have your first matcha, it’s so good.”
The aim of Panchakarma is to remove all unwanted waste while also lubricating the body. Cold foods or showers are not allowed as they will have a cooling effect on the practitioner’s agni or digestive fire. Sex, strenuous exercise and loud music are also banned as they contribute to excess stimulation, which is why it’s so surprising to hear the star, a poster child for PDA with her partner Travis Barker, was able to complete the cleanse.
For the 42-year-old reality star, having healthy energy around her has always been a priority, despite it appearing like she wasn’t as motivated as her sisters toward the end of their long-running show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She shares in the interview that promoting a good work-life balance has been a big topic for the show, with her resistance to filming and fulfill work obligations a reoccurring topic. Now, her family is starting to see the light. “Having the break shifted the mindset with my sisters,” she said. “When you’re doing that [show] every single day, you don’t have the space to take a break and be like, ‘Wait, we actually love each other.’”
