Katie Maloney’s decision to get lip filler wasn’t just for plumper lips. As revealed during a July 2 episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the Vanderpump Rules star, 37, explained that it also helped reduce the appearance of scarring from her near-fatal accident in 2009.

To refresh Bravo fans and beyond, the reality star fell through a skylight, plummeting 25 feet. As reported by Bravo, she sustained a “broken jaw, broken collarbone, multiple broken ribs, and a brain injury.”

“I had scar tissue on [one] side,” Maloney said during the episode. “I used it to give my lips more volume on that side of my face mostly.” While she appreciated the aesthetic benefits, she added that the decision was primarily to help plump, volumize, and subtly lift the area affected by scar tissue. Host Amanda Hirsch chimed in that the scarring is indeed less visible now.

Although Maloney found the lip filler results successful, she mentioned she hasn’t “done it in maybe a year and a half,” adding that it’s not something she “keeps up with every six months.”

Katie Maloney Has Also Spoken About Her Experience Getting Botox to Help With Scarring…

This isn’t the first time she’s spoken about using cosmetic treatments to reduce the appearance of her scarring. During season 6 of Vanderpump Rules, which aired in 2017, she discussed the accident and her subsequent scarring. “As part of it, I have this scar on my face,” she said during the episode. “I had to go see a plastic surgeon and, you know, remove the scar. But erasing that would have erased this pretty monumental moment of my life. So I think, you know, I like my scar. I think it gives me character and it’s also a badge of honor in some ways… I went through something crazy but I’m still here.”

She also mentioned receiving a neurotoxin injectable to help with that scarring. “I had this dimple in my chin from scar tissue from when I had my accident, and it would just dimple in strange ways,” she said. “But I just got a little Botox and then that helped.”
