Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia journey has been a widely discussed topic ever since the star got real about her hair loss struggles on her show, Red Table Talk, last year. The mom-of-two’s hair condition was thrust even further into to the spotlight after the famous 2022 Oscars controversy where Chris Rock made an off-hand comment comment about Pinkett Smith’s lack of hair. After the incident, Pinkett Smith became even more vocal about her alopecia journey, and just this week the actress shared some uplifting progress shots of her recent hair growth.
Jada Pinkett Smith’s Alopecia Journey Then and Now
Though Pinkett Smith has done a lot for the alopecia community through her candid and accepting nature when it comes to the condition—even wishing a happy “bald is beautiful” day to her “brothers and sisters with no hair” back in September—the star has admitted that the road to acceptance was not always an easy one. “It was terrifying when it first started,” she began on Red Table Talk last year, “I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair just in my hands. I was like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?’ It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking with fear.”
But, with time, Pinkett Smith has grown to love her look regardless of the state of her hair. “I don’t give two craps what people feel about this bald head of mine, cause guess what? I love it,” she shared in a 2022 TikTok. Staying true to her candid nature, the actress shared a carousel on IG this week of before and after selfies showcasing her hair growth over the past year. “This hair here is act’n like it’s try’n a make a come back,” she wrote in the caption, “Still have some trouble spots, but we’ll see,” she concluded, proudly.
