For the oft-discussed treatment of the “Liquid Lift” there’s never a works-for-all approach taken at Chico, CA dermatologist Kafele T. Hodari, MD’s practice—although the end goal of delivering natural-looking results is always a constant. “The treatment is a great way for injectors to assess and rejuvenate the entire face in a comprehensive and holistic fashion,” he says, and offers this inclusive breakdown of who makes for the best candidate, why an emphasis on customization is key for any skilled injector, and what patients can expect.
On the ideal candidate:
“The ideal candidate is interested in global restoration or volumization, rather than treating just one area. Pan rejuvenation, as I sometimes call it, is typically a better value for patients. In addition, the injector may be better able to provide more natural-looking results, since the face can be restored or improved more uniformly and in balance. It’s not uncommon for me to treat multiple areas of the face in one visit, including the cheeks, temples, tear troughs, lips and smile lines. Treating just the lips for example, in someone who has a short or recessed chin can make the face appear out of balance.”
On the customized approach:
“The products and approach I would use for a 60-year-old man whose daughter is getting married in three months might be different from the ones I’d use for a 38-year-old woman returning to work after having her third child. Everything is customized based on the patient’s appearance, features, symmetry and desired outcomes. Pan rejuvenation typically involves using multiple vials, including different brands and adding neurotoxins as well.”
On results a patient can expect:
“Result vary amongst a variety of factors—such as patient age, number of vials used, locations that are treated, and the presence or absence of previous fillers on board, to name a few. The patient’s goals and desired outcomes matter, as well as the provider’s experience and care. I aim for subtle, but noticeable results. Results that are too subtle, however, are underwhelming and not ideal. Outcomes that are too obvious or ‘over-done’ are also less than ideal. I aim for results where someone who doesn’t recognize you would never suspect you’ve had anything done, but a close friend with a keen eye might stop and stare and wonder if you changed your hair. My goal is that everyone will notice, but no one will know.”
On the downtime associated:
“Downtime, which can last up to a week or so, could involve some swelling or mild bruising. The use of a cannula can significantly reduce the likelihood, extent and duration of bruising associated with dermal filler injections.”
